AWARAN: In a heartbreaking event, five children drowned in a pond in the Jhao Sarmastani Butt area of Awaran district on Tuesday. The children, who were playing near the pond, slipped and fell into the water, according to Deputy Commissioner Awaran, Ayesha Zehri.

The victims have been identified as Salman (12), Hassan (7), Ismat (10), Horan (9), and brothers Rehmat and Phalan. Their bodies were retrieved from the pond and transported to a local hospital. Recent rains had filled the pond with water, creating a hidden danger for the unsuspecting children. “This is indeed a tragic incident,” Ayesha Zehri remarked.

The Levies Force, a paramilitary unit in the area, confirmed the identities of the children and provided further details about the incident. They have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to this tragedy and are offering support to the grieving families, according to Zehri.

The local community is in a state of shock and mourning the loss of these young lives. The incident has caused widespread grief and distress, prompting calls for measures to prevent such accidents in the future.

Authorities have urged parents to ensure the safety of their children, particularly during the rainy season when ponds and other water bodies can become hazardous.

The investigation into the incident continues as the community comes to terms with the devastating loss of five innocent lives.
