Congo virus claims 3 lives infected 25 in Balochistan

QUETTA: Congo virus has claimed three lives and  25 people tested positive for the virus in Balochistan. “Out of 44 patients, 25 were tested positive for Congo virus”, an official of the Fatima Jinnah Chest and General Hospital told Daily Quetta Voice.

The official requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media. The three people who lost their lives were from one family of Quetta. The family members had taken them to Karachi for medical treatment. But they could not survive, the official mentioned.

The patients had contracted the congo virus on the eve of Eid ul Azha after their contact with livestock. The patients were admitted to the isolation ward reserved for congo patients in the Fatima Jinnah hospital.

“Except doctors, none can interact with congo patients”

“None, except doctors, are allowed to interact with patients”, the official informed. The attendants and family members have been asked to be away from the patients. “The condition of five patients is critical”, he informed.

Most of the patients are from Quetta, Killa Saifullah, Musakhail and Loralai. Congo virus has already claimed precious human lives in various parts of Balochistan. The health officials had warned the people to keep their distance from livestock and take precautionary measures to stay safe on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.

Some of the patients are butchers of Quetta who were widely exposed to livestock on the eve of Eid ul Azha, the official concluded.
