BELA: Angry protesters blocked the Quetta Karachi highway at Bela, Windar and other areas against the bifurcation of the Lasbela district on Tuesday afternoon. The protesters burnt tires and blocked the highway linking Balochistan with Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city.

“Protesters want restoration of the previous status of Lasbela district”, Maula Bakhsh, one of the protesters said. He said the present provincial government has distorted the historical status of the district by its bifurcation.

“We will not accept this imposed decision of bifurcation of the district”, he said.

Long queues of small and heavy vehicles were witnessed on either side of the road because of the blockade of the road. The protesters chanted full-throated slogans against the present government and demanded the restoration of Lasbela’s old status.

Former CM Jam Kamal opposes the decision

Former Chief Minister, Jam Kamal Khan has also opposed the bifurcation of Lasbela into two districts. However, his opposition to the decision has not worked so far. Passengers remained the worst sufferers of the blockade of the highway. They demanded of the administration to ensure the reopening of the route.

The Balochistan government through a notification declared Hub and Osta Muhammad as the two new districts in the province. Senior Minister Balochistan, Sardar Saleh Bhootani and acting Governor Balochistan, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali have played a key role in the establishment of two new districts.
