A three-month-old baby fell prey to poliovirus in Balochistan’s Dukki district on Saturday. Samples of the baby were collected a few days back and sent to the laboratory, sources in the health department told the daily Quetta Voice.
The laboratory report confirmed that the baby had contracted the crippling virus, they said. With the confirmation of a new case of the crippling virus, the number of cases reached 13 during the current year in Balochistan. Most of the cases have been reported from Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah. The number of refusal on the parents remain high in these areas. This case has been confirmed five days after a polio case was reported from Balochistan’s Pishin district.
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has severely affected the anti-polio campaign in Balochistan and other parts of the country.
The health department report with regard to the fresh polio case obtained by the daily Quetta Voice shows that the baby belonged to the middle class.
Despite three decades of the continued anti-polio campaign, the crippling virus is yet to be eradicated from Balochistan and other parts of the country. The crippling virus has left a large number of kids disabled in Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah and other parts of the province.
