CHAGHI: Pakistani and Iranian officials met in Mir Java, an Iranian city to discuss security arrangements for the fast approaching Iranian parliamentary elections. Additional Deputy Commissioner Chaghi, Badil Khan Dashti led the Pakistani side whereas the Iranian side was headed by an officer of border security guard.
The two sides agreed to close the Pak-Iran border on February 21st on the eve of Iranian parliamentary elections. Security forces on both sides of the border would be kept on high alert to avert any untoward incident.
Frontier Corps Wing Commander Lt. Colonel Waqar Afzal, Assistant Commissioner Najeeb Qambrani and deputy Marzaban from Iranian side Colonel Hyder Muredi participated in the meeting.
Pakistan and Iran has over 900 km long border. The countries have already established a joint border commission to look after issues relating to the border. The commission meets on regular basis to improve coordination between the law enforcers of the two countries to improve security at the border.
