Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) candidate, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi was elected as the deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday. Wasiq was elected as the deputy speaker after a successful no confidence motion against Dost Muhammad Mazari.
PTI had nominated Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi as its candidate for Deputy Speaker’s position. Wasiq Qayyum submitted his nomination papers, but now he was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
PTI’s leader Raja Basharat said that the opposition received the nomination papers but no one came to submit the papers before 5 pm on Saturday. Thus the Assembly Secretariat announced the victory of Wasiq Qayyum as Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
It should be noted that the opposition nominated Ali Haider Gilani as a candidate who boycotted the deputy speaker’s election.
