QUETTA: Despite fighting front line role against terrorism, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) was faced with serious financial crisis. A well placed source inside the CTD told Quetta Voice that annual reward budget for over 1100 personnel operating in Balochistan was only Rs. 60000. Thus, secret budget/ fund for whole of the province was Rs. 3 lakh.
Since 2018, the CTD has played an important role in fight against terrorism. In 2018, the CTD killed 19 terrorists and arrested 35. However, in 2019, the counter terrorism department arrested 82 terrorists and killed 44 during intelligence based operations across the province.
The anti terror organization within police was facing serious financial crisis and the lives of its personnel were at peril owing to repeated operations against terrorists. To comply with FATF recommendations, the CTD arrested 73 accused and 48 cases were filed against the accused.
Established to conduct IBOs along with other law enforcement agencies, the CTD has set up 28 offices in various parts of Balochistan to cope with the menace of terrorism. “Our personnel have always put their lives at danger while acting against hardcore terrorists”, a senior officer of the CTD who declined to be named since he was not authorized to speak to media.
The Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan who also visited CTD’s office assured resolution of problems. However, so far no practical steps were taken to address the financial crisis of CTD.
