QUETTA: The Balochistan government has granted special remission to 78 prisoners in various jails of the province to halt the spread of deadly coronavirus. The prisoners have been granted special remission under prisoners’ rules, said in a notification issued by inspector general prisons Balochistan, Malik Muhammad Yousaf on Thursday.

Thousands of prisoners are languishing in all 13 prisons of the province. Special remission has been granted by the prison chief to halt the spread of deadly coronavirus in the province.

“We are processing the release of 13 prisoners in Quetta”, a prison official who declined to named told Quetta Voice on Thursday evening.

The health department had also conducted screening of all prisoners in Quetta a few days back. However, no positive case of the coronavirus was found in the jail, he said.

In Balochistan, so far 131 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed. However, one death has been confirmed by the officials so far. The government has declared emergency to tackle the situation developed in the aftermath of the outbreak of coronavirus.
