Balochistan: Prison department without IG for last more than one month

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Wednesday ordered the Inspector General Prisons to take disciplinary action against the Superintendent district jail Quetta for not releasing a prisoner despite completion of imprisonment period.

This order was passed by a two-member bench of the BHC comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Rozi Khan Bareech on a petition filed by a prisoner Adeel Anwar. Mr. Anwar had mentioned in his petition that he has completed his imprisonment period but the jail authorities were reluctant to issue his release order.

The IG Prisons is directed to take disciplinary action against the Superintendent district jail Quetta, the bench ordered. Mr. Anwar was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and convicted by NAB  court in an embezzlement case in WAPDA. He spent three years behind the bars, an official of the Quetta Jail who declined to be named told the daily Quetta Voice.
