Web Desk:

The number of coronavirus cases has recently increased in Balochistan as the tally reached 12,224. The province confirmed 80 cases on Saturday evening. Cases of the deadly virus continue to increase during last couple of days after the provincial government eased the lockdown in Quetta city. The number dropped to less than a dozen earlier as compared to 400 to 500 per day during April, May and June this year.

Similarly, 10,783 patients have recovered from the novel coronavirus until now. Most of the people have recovered from the virus at their homes while battling it in isolation. The recovery ratio appears to be high in Balochistan as compared to other parts of the country. “Our recovery ratio is more than 86 percent”, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman government of Balochistan said.

The virus has caused 138 deaths so far in the province. However, the number of deaths caused by the virus remained high as people considered it a social stigma and preferred to hide coronavirus as cause of death. A sharp rise in number of deaths was witnessed in Quetta, Pishin, Kill Abdullah and other districts of Balochistan in March, April and May.

Balochistan health department has conducted over 68,000 tests of the deadly virus and the authorities plan to expand the process to reach out to maximum number of people. “Our objective is to reach villages and far-flung areas”, Mr. Shahwani said.
