Hafiz Basit acquitted in mega corruption scandal

 

The Accountability Court Quetta acquitted the additional chief secretary home, Hafiz Abdul Basit in the Mega Corruption Scandal on Wednesday. The court also acquitted Faisal Jamal, an officer of the local government.

The accountability court judge, Munawar Ahmed Shahwani acquitted Hafiz Basit and Faisal Jamal on an application filed by their counsel, Aurangzai Kakar Advocate Wednesday. Rashid Zaib Golra Advocate presented NAB in the court. The court adjourned the hearing till September 22nd.

Hafiz Basit acquitted in Balochistan Mega Corruption Scandal

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against former adviser on finance, Mir Khalid Langove, former secretary finance Mushtaq Raisani for embezzlement in local government funds. Names of Hafiz Abdul Basit, the then secretary local government, and Faisal Jamal, an officer of the same department were included in the reference. The accountability court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Hafiz Abdul Basit and Faisal Jamal on Feb 20th, 2017. Abdul Majeed Nasar, the Judge of the Court had issued the arrest warrants in the mega corruption scandal.

Bags full of cash recovered from Mushtaq Raisani 

Law enforcement agencies recovered PKR 650 million in cash and jewelry in a raid conducted at Raisani’s residence in May 2016. The authorities uncovered evidence indicating the former secretary finance owned multiple residential properties in Defence Housing Authority, Karachi.

Khalid Langove tendered resignation. NAB officials arrested Mr. Langove on the premises of the Balochistan High Court after the cancellation of bail on May 25, 2016. Mr. Langove through his counsel had filed an application seeking bail before arrest from the court. He was shifted to the regional headquarter of the anti-corruption bureau.

Langove granted bail 

The Balochistan High Court granted bail to Khalid Langove and Mushtaq Raisani on July 30th, 2018. The BHC set bail at Rs5 million each for the two accused in the mega corruption scandal.
