‘Honour Killings’: Claim 4 lives in Balochistan

Honour killings have claimed 4 lives in Balochistan during the last two days in two separate firing incidents in Dukki and Naseerabad districts. Police said the dead include two women and two men.

Israr Ahmed Tareen, a levies (tribal policing) official told Quetta Voice armed men killed a man and woman in Killi Bakhtiarabad Dukki. The assailants escaped unhurt from the spot after the firing. “Armed accused killed them on charges of ‘illicit relations”, Mr Tareen said. The dead bodies shifted to district headquarters hospital for postmortem. Both the victims had received multiple bullets, the medical report said.

No arrest made in the aftermath of the incident. However, Mr Tareen said efforts were on to apprehend the culprits involved in the firing act that claimed two lives.

Naseerabad:

An eighteen-year-old girl and a man killed in a firing incident in Goth Saffar Khan of Tehsil Tambo in the name of honour. Police sources said a father opened fire in the Goth and killed his eighteen-year-old daughter and her alleged paramour in the area.

The dead bodies shifted to district headquarters hospital in Naseerabad for postmortem. The report showed both the victims had received more than five bullets each. Such killings in the name of ‘honour’ are almost order of the day in Balochistan’s Naseerabad and Jaffarabad districts.

However, Ayesha Wadood, the Chief of UN Women Sub-Office says, ‘this phenomenon of so-called ‘honour killings’ continues to spread”. She pointed out that the killing of women in the name of ‘honour killings’ has spread in northern and central parts of Balochistan also. “This year 16 women murdered in the name of ‘honour killings’, Ayesha Wadood informed. Especially, during COVID19 violence against women increased.
