Quetta receives winter’s first rain

Quetta received the winter season’s first rainfall on Saturday morning. The sky remained cloudy, with cold gusts of wind blowing throughout the day. Overall, the existing dry weather turned pleasant and cold in Quetta after continued rainfall for the whole day.

Apart from Quetta, other parts of Balochistan including Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Harnai, Ziarat, and other areas also received first winter rain. People enjoyed slow and continued rain throughout the day. Most of the people preferred to be at their homes during the day since it was officially also off. “I have spent the whole day at my home”, Shakeel Ahmed, an inhabitant of Quetta’s Shaldara area says.

Citizens complained about unannounced load shedding, low gas pressure  

The citizens however complained about unannounced and prolonged load shedding of power supply and low gas pressure in various parts of the city. “We are facing low gas pressure problems since morning”, Shahid Baloch, a resident of Quetta’s Sariab road area said.

People in Psihin, Ziarat, and other areas also complained about load shedding of gas supply and unannounced load shedding of power supply. However, the growers’ community heaved a sigh of relief with the first winter rain in parts of Balochistan. “This rain is on time and it will help promote agriculture”, Haji Abdul Rehman Bazai, the central member of Balochistan Zamindar Action Committee said. He said this rain would support crops and orchards in the province.

In Balochistan, most people’s jobs are linked with the agriculture sector and a huge population is dependent on this sector. Their crops and orchards are irrigated through under groundwater by pumping water from tube wells. “The rain will also help maintain the water table”, Mr. Bazai mentioned.
