Balochistan reports 26th polio case of 2020
Health Desk:
QUETTA: Balochistan on Wednesday reported the 26th case of the poliovirus. Health department sources said a 14-month old minor girl tested positive for the crippling virus. The girl belongs to the Mastung district of Balochistan. The number of polio cases reached 84 across the country after confirmation of fresh case from Balochistan.
Sources termed refusal of polio drops to the kid as the underlying reason behind the fresh case. Samples of the victim sent to a laboratory in Islamabad a few days back. A laboratory report confirmed the minor girl has contracted the crippling virus.
With the confirmation of a new case, the number of poliovirus cases reached 26 in Balochistan, an official of the Emergency Operation Cell (EOC) said. The victim belongs to the north Karez area of district Mastung.
Most of the polio cases reported from Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah
In Balochistan, most of the poliovirus cases have been reported from Quetta, Pishin, and Killa Abdullah districts. The EOC had already warned of the presence of poliovirus after the collection of environmental samples. Officials said thousands of refusals were also present in the three districts.
Balochistan has witnessed a rise in the number of polio cases this year. Officials termed four months suspension of the anti-polio campaign as one of the major reasons behind the increasing number of cases in the province. The Balochistan government has also put all departments on high alert to battle the crippling virus for the last three decades.
Refusals coupled with poor management main reasons behind poliovirus
Despite three-decades of anti-polio campaigns, the crippling virus is yet to be eradicated. Refusals coupled with poor management on the part of concerned quarters appeared to be the underlying reason behind the presence of poliovirus.
