Polio campaign kicks off in Balochistan

First anti-polio campaign of the year 2021 launched in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan on Monday morning. During the campaign, over 2.4 children under the age of five years being administered polio drops across the province.
In Quetta, the female volunteers started providing polio drops to the children. Strict security measures adopted by the administration to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident during the campaign.
Rashid Razzaq, the Coordinator Emergency Operation Cell (EOC) said over 10,000 teams formed to make sure provision of polio drops to children under the age of five years. “Efforts on to provide drops to every child”, Mr. Razzaq mentioned.
Balochistan reported 26 cases during 2020
Balochistan reported 26 cases of the crippling virus during the year 2020. Most of the cases reported from Quetta, Killa Abdullah, and Pishin districts of Balochistan. Sources in the Balochistan health department informed that the anti-polio campaign would underway for seven days in Quetta, Pishin, and Killa Abdullah. However, in the rest of the districts, the campaign would on for four days.
“Because of increasing cases, seven days reserved for the above-mentioned three districts”, sources said. The number of parents refusing polio drops to their children is also in thousands in Pishin, Killa Abdullah, and Quetta districts. However, the government has formed committees comprising religious scholars and people belonging to various walks of life to convince the parents to ensure polio drops to their children.
