Water reservoirs to overcome food security issue: Governor Balochistan

Governor Balochistan, Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yaseenzai on Tuesday said new water reservoirs can help overcome the issue of hunger and food security in the province. He expressed these views while talking to the country director Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Ms. Rebekah Bell at Governor’s house.
He termed construction of delay and check dams important for creating new water reservoirs to mitigate the impacts of global warming and address the issue of food security. “Global warming has worst impacts on agriculture and livestock in Balochistan”, Mr. Yaseenzai said.
Governor underlines the importance of creating new water reservoirs
He underlined the need for creating new water reservoirs to promote livestock, agriculture, and fisheries sectors. “Present government is working on a number of projects”, the Governor stated.
The Governor urged for launching an awareness campaign regarding hunger and food security in far-flung areas of Balochistan. He said the government was taking steps to support farmers and growers in the province.
The FAO country director assured that her organization would extend all possible support to address the issue of hunger and food security.
The British government, WFP to launch 3.5 million pounds project in Balochistan
In Balochistan, food security and hunger remain major problems. The number of malnourished women and children has risen to an alarming level. Currently, the British High Commissioner, World Food Program (WFP), and the government of Balochistan have announced to launch of a 3.5 million pounds project for malnourished children and women.
