Senate elections: JUI F and BNP Mengal finalize formula

Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (F) and Balochistan National Party (Mengal) have decided to evolve a joint strategy in the senate elections. The two mainstream opposition political parties have decided in principle to support each other’s candidates in the polls.

Negotiations among political parties regarding senate elections entered final phase in Balochistan.

“We have finalized a formula for senate elections”, Malik Naseer Ahmed Shahwani, the parliamentary leader of the BNP M said. Speaking to the media, Mr. Shahwani said JUI F would support two candidates of BNP M in general seats.

BNP to vote for technocrat candidate of JUI F 

However, the BNP M would vote for the technocrat candidate of JUI F. On women’s seats, the religious party would support BNP M candidates. Whereas, BNP would vote for the JUI F candidate on a minority seat.

“We are making a joint strategy with all opposition parties”, Malik Naseer Shahwani said. He said all opposition parties have decided to play an effective role in the upper house regarding issues concerning Balochistan.

The senate elections would be held on March 3rd in Balochistan like in other parts of the country. A total of 36 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 12 vacant seats in the upper house.

PTI and BAP also formed an alliance

The ruling political parties including the Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) have also formed an alliance. The PTI candidate Zahoor Agha also withdrew in the support of BAP candidate.

PTI Balochistan chief Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind had expressed reservations about senate tickets. CM Balochistan Jam Kamal had proposed a joint parliamentary board to what he declares would save votes of ruling alliance.
