Iran deports 20595 illegal immigrants to Pakistan during 2020

Iran has deported 20,595 illegal immigrants to Pakistan at the Pak-Iran border Taftan during the year 2020. Sources in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said Iranian forces had intercepted illegal immigrants in various parts of Iran and handed over them to levies force at Taftan.

The illegal immigrants belonged to various parts of the country. However, majority of them belonged to Punjab province. “The illegal immigrants were trying to reach European countries”, sources mentioned.

Every year, thousands of illegal immigrants make abortive attempts to Greece via Iran and Turkey. However, Iranian and Turkish forces arrest most of the illegal immigrants.

Iranian authorities handed over most of the illegal immigrants in the month of October 2020, they informed. A total of 6,583 illegal immigrants handed over to the Levies Force at Pak-Iran border Taftan.

Illegal immigrants suffer a lot

Illegal immigrants suffer a lot on their way to European countries via Iran and Turkey. They face extremely inhuman treatment at the hand of Iranian forces.

The ratio of deportees was less in January, February, and March because of the outbreak of COVID19, the FIA sources elaborated. The security forces have repeatedly intercepted illegal immigrants prior to their entry into Iran. Although, many illegal immigrants manage to sneak into Iran through unfrequented routes at the border.

Pakistan shares a 900km border with Iran 

Pakistan shares over 900km long border with neighboring Iran in the South and West. Pakistan is also fencing off the border with Iran to stop illegal movement and smuggling.

Most of the work on over 900km long border has been completed, a security official said. He declined to be named. Pakistan has also tightened security at the border with Iran recently.

The two countries have also established a  joint border commission that reviews matters relating to the border after every quarter.
