Court suspends notification of PD by Balochistan Irrigation Department

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Thursday suspended a notification by the Irrigation Department about the appointment of the project director for the construction of 100 dams. A division bench of the BHC comprising Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Mr. Justice Zaheer Uddin Kakar passed the suspension order on a petition filed by Shoaib Tareen, the PD of the project.

Senior lawyer, Ishaq Nasar advocate appeared before the court on the part of Mr. Tareen.

Irrigation department violated service rules: BHC observed 

The counsel pleaded that the department has violated service rules in terms of appointment of the project director for the construction of 100 dams in Balochistan. He pointed out that a grade-18 officer has replaced a grade-20 officer as PD, which is in violation of merit.

After hearing the arguments, the bench ordered the suspension of the notification issued by the Secretary Irrigation department on March 9th, 2021. The court issued notices to concerned quarters to appear in the next hearing.

Federal government launches construction of 100 dams in Balochistan 

The federal government has launched the construction of 100 delay and check dams to maintain the depleting water table. The Supreme Court had also directed the Balochistan government to ensure completion of the construction of dams within the next three years.
