PMC registers all 600 medical students of Balochistan

PMC allows HEC scholarship seats for Balochistan, FATA

The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has allowed Higher Education  Commission (HEC) scholarship seats for students of erstwhile FATA and Balochistan province. In a letter address to provinces, the PMC has recommended the admission of 265 students selected by HEC in public colleges across Pakistan.

The PMC’s recommendation has come after the weeks-long protest by the students of Balochistan and erstwhile FATA in Islamabad. “PMC has asked all provinces to accommodate all 265 students in terms of admissions”, Ababgar Baloch, the planning officer health department Balochistan said.

Students had established a protest camp outside the PMC office to mount pressure on the Commission to restore seats of Balochistan and erstwhile FATA.

Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Afridi played a key role 

Deputy Chairman Senate, Mirza Afridi, federal minister Ali Muhammad Khan, Senator Sardar  Shafiq Tareen, and other lawmakers had played a key role in addressing the admission issue of students in medical colleges.

Lawmakers held a series of meetings with PMC officials and subsequently got seats approved. “All public medical colleges directed to provide admissions to these students”, Mr. Baloch informed.

PMC decreased Balochistan seats from 134 to 14

In another move, the PMC also decreased Balochistan’s medical seats from 134 to only 14 in the higher education commission in medical. “This is a clear violation of rights of students from Balochistan”, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani, the former chief minister said.

Balochistan Assembly had demanded the restoration of medical seats 

The Balochistan Assembly has also demanded of the federal government to restore medical seats in the high education commission through PMC. “PMC has assured restoration of medical seats of Balochistan”, Finance Minister, Mir Zahoor Buledi said.
