In 2020, more than 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer globally
Health Desk :
QUETTA: In 2020, more than 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer globally. Breast cancer among women in the country in general and Balochistan, in particular, is rampant. Lack of awareness and poor health facilities remained one of the underlying reasons behind increasing cases of breast cancer in Balochistan.
World Health Organization (WHO) statistics have sent alarm bells about the increasing cases of breast cancer globally. The Bolan Medical Complex Hospital (BMCH) organized an awareness walk in this regard on Thursday.
The Medical Superintendent of BMCH, Dr. Noorullah Musakhail, and the head of the cancer ward Dr. Zahid Mehmood led the participants in the walk. The participants of the walk had carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans regarding awareness about breast cancer.
“1 out of 8 women suffer from breast cancer”
“Globally, one out of eight women is the victim of breast cancer”, Dr. Zahid Mehmood revealed. He said the statistics were as per the data of the American Cancer Society. Senior doctors, paramedics, and other health professionals also participated in the walk.
“Women should immediately consult a doctor in the case of any breast pain”, Dr. Zahid Mehmood suggested. Breast cancer has also claimed around 7,00,000 lives of women in 2020.

Female literacy paints a bleak picture in Balochistan
Balochistan is lagging behind other provinces in terms of education and the female literacy rate paints a bleak picture in this regard. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive and diagnosed with breast cancer, WHO published the statistics on its website. The ratio of women contracting breast cancer remains high in developing countries as compared to developed ones.
