Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali elected unopposed Speaker Balochistan Assembly

QUETTA: Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly on Saturday. Mr. Jamali could not take the oath of the custodian of the house because of his health conditions. Acting Speaker BA, Sardar Babar Musakhail announced the election of Mr. Jamali as Speaker of BA.

Jamali has replaced Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo as the Speaker of BA. Mr. Bizenjo was also elected unopposed as the Chief Minister of Balochistan on October 29th. Governor Balochistan, Syed Zahoor Agha had convened the Balochistan Assembly session on Saturday for the election of the speaker.

The assembly secretariat was receiving nomination papers from 8:30 to 12. “None submitted nomination papers against Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali”, sources in the BA told Quetta Voice. Jamali belongs to the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and is one of its core committee members.

Jan Jamali elected as Speaker: Secretary Assembly

Tahir Shah Kakar, the Secretary BA said Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali has been elected as the Speaker as per the law since none has submitted nomination papers. Jamali is going to be the 16th speaker of BA. He belongs to Balochistan’s district Jaffarabad and hails from a political family.

Jamali was born on May 23rd, 1955. He got his basic education from his home district and then got a bachelor’s degree from the University of Balochistan. He launched his political career in 1983 from the election of local bodies and was elected as an MPA in 1988 on the ticket of Islami Jamhoori Ittihad (IJI).

Jamali remained CM of Balochistan from June 15, 1998, to October 12, 1999

Later on, in 1990, he contested the election as an independent candidate and served as a minister in 1993. In 1997, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali was elected as an MPA on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and served as the Chief Minister of Balochistan from June 15, 1998, to October 12, 1999.

In 2013’s general elections, Mr. Jamali was elected as an MPA on the ticket of PML (N) and remained speaker from June 4, 2013, to 2015. Jamali has also served as the deputy chairman of the senate during the Pakistan Peoples Party government.
