Protesters have blocked the main coastal highway to mount pressure on the government for acceptance of their demands in Gwadar on Thursday morning. Hundreds of people staged a protest demonstration in various parts of the district in support of their demands.

Police sources said the protesters have blocked the Coastal highway at Ormara Zero Point, Pasni, and Sur Bandan. The protesters chanted full-throated slogans against the district administration and the government for their failure to address the grievances of the masses.

Fishermen have also refused to enter the sea during the ongoing protest. Shutter down strike was observed in Gwadar and other towns of the district on the call of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, the Secretary-General of Jamaat e Islami (JI).

Security tightened in Gwadar

The administration has taken strict security measures to avert any untoward incident during the protest.

According to a notification issued by Balochistan’s Central Police Office, the additional police force being sent comprises deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and station house officers (SHOs) in addition to lower-cadre personnel.

The notification said Gwadar’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) would be the overall commander of the force while the most senior DSP would be the overall commander for the concerned district police. The sub-divisional police officers would be in charge of their concerned sub-divisional force, whereas the SHOs would command their respective police station personnel.
