Six months on, young doctors observing boycott of OPDs in Balochistan

Manan Mandokhail:

Six months on, the young doctors association Balochistan has been observing a boycott of OPDs across the province. “Our boycott is going on since the government has failed to address issues”, Dr. Hafeez Mandokhail, the Chief of YDA told reporters at Quetta Press Club on Monday evening.

Mr. Mandokhail announced entering the Red Zone of the provincial capital on Thursday to mount pressure on the authorities for acceptance of their demands. “Despite repeated dialogues, the government is not serious in solving our issues”, Mr.  Mandokhail said.

Patients remained the worst sufferers of doctor strikes in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. The government has held repeated negotiations, but the defiant doctors are not ready to call off the strike.

A month ago, Balochistan health minister, Syed Ehsan Shah, and YDA representatives had addressed a joint news conference and announced that a breakthrough has been made and the strike would be called off very soon.

“Government is serious in solving doctors’ issues, but they have to realize the difficulties of the masses”, Balochistan Health Minister, Syed Ehsan Shah said. He urged doctors to end the boycott of the OPDs and start treating the patients.
