Forest fire still rampant, administration helpless in Sherani Balochistan

ZHOB: A forest fire has claimed three lives and left four people injured in Balochistan’s Sherani district on Thursday. Ejaz Jaffar, the Deputy Commissioner Sherani told Quetta Voice via telephone that seven people who had gone to the top of the mountain were trapped after the fire spread in the forest.

“Three people burnt to death”, Mr. Jaffar informed. He said the four injured had suffered burn injuries and were being shifted to district headquarters hospital Zhob for medical treatment. Ancient pine trees burnt as a result of the fire. “Fire continues to spread and burning ancient pine trees”, Attique Khan Kakar, an officer of the forest department said. He demanded of the provincial and federal governments to provide more support to control the fire.

The DC informed that the fire was spread to four kilometers area. Ancient pine trees have burnt because of the fire. “One helicopter is not enough to put off the fire”, Mr. Jaffar said. This fire has destroyed the livelihood of the people, he mentioned.

CJ BHC asks authorities to submit a report about forest fire

Chief Justice Balochistan High Court (BHC), Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Mr. Justice Rozi Khan Bareech directed the concerned authorities to submit a report in this regard. The court passed this order on a constitutional petition filed by senior lawyer Syed Nazeer Agha Advocate on Thursday. Mr. Agha had requested the bench of the BHC to take notice of the fire, which has burnt ancient pine trees in the area.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo had taken the notice of rampant fire in the Sar Ghali forest area. An army helicopter reached the affected area on Thursday to put off the flames of fire. However, the forest officials said that one helicopter was not enough to extinguish the flames of fire in the forest.
