QUETTA: A forest fire in a Pine Forest near Shergali, Dist Sherani began on 18 May 22 and is continuing till now, the military’s media wing said. Balochistan PDMA in coordination with NDMA is steering relief efforts and org fire fighting activity. Army and FC Balochistan are providing max assistance. HQ 12 Corps is coordinating closely with PDMA, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday evening.

Fire is mostly on mountain tops (10000 ft high) away from population centers but costs to spread due to hot weather, inaccessible nature of the terrain, and dry winds; the nearest village is approx 8 – 10 kilometers away from the location of the fire.

However, 10 x families residing in isolated houses have been shifted to Medical relief camp established in Manikhawa by FC Balochistan, the ISPR mentioned.

An FC Wing and 2 Army helicopters along with local administration and Levies have been employed in fire fighting and relief efforts. 1 helicopter is being used to drop water and another is being used to drop fireball and fire extinguishing chemicals on the fire.

400 fireballs, 200 fire suits, blankets, tents, mats, and fire extinguishing equipment have been provided by NDMA through FC Balochistan. Army has also transported relief equipment from Lahore to Zhob.
