Torrential rains claim 9 lives in Balochistan

QUETTA: Torrential rains have claimed nine lives in various parts of Balochistan during the last two days. “We have received reports of deaths from Sibi, Harnai and Dukki districts”, Naseer Ahmed Nasar, the Director-General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) told this scribe via telephone on Tuesday.

Torrential rains have played havoc in various parts of Eastern and Nothern Balochistan on Tuesday. “Rains and floods have also damaged over 100 mud-walled houses”, Mr. Nasar said. A large number of people have also been affected by torrential rains and flash floods.

Three women were also among the dead, the DG PDMA mentioned. He said an emergency was also imposed in Kohlu, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhail and Sherani districts of Balochistan to cope with any emergency situation.

When asked about the exact number of affected people, Mr. Nasar mentioned that all concerned deputy commissioners have been directed to submit a comprehensive assessment report regarding the damages.
