Quetta police claimed to have killed eight drug peddlers in the main city nullah in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at his office, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Azfar Maisar said the drug peddlers were killed during an exchange of fire between police and narcotics smugglers.
Police also recovered arms and ammunition from the custody of drug peddlers. During the operation conducted in the central city nullah, police also recovered narcotics, the DIG informed. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Abdul Haq Umrani and others were also present on occasion.

Police abolish safe heavens in the nullah
“Police also abolished safe heavens inside the nullah”, the DIG Police mentioned. He said personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) also joined the police operation in the nullah. The narcotics smugglers killed in the process were wanted by police in various criminal cases.
“Police seized modern weapons from the possession of the drug peddlers”, Azfar Maisar informed. The police raiding party faced resistance during the operation. There was also an exchange of fire between police and drug peddlers in the central nullah.

Permanent police check posts to be established
Balochistan government has decided to establish police check posts at the entrance of the nullah to bring an end to the narcotics business. Policemen would be deployed on a permanent basis to eradicate the curse of heroin and other narcotics from the city, the DIG Police stated.

In response to a question, the DIG CTD, Aitzaz Goraya revealed that narcotics were also being used in terror financing. The outlawed militant groups were also getting money from the narcotics business, Mr. Goraya mentioned.
“We are not going to spare anyone if anyone fires on police”, Aitzaz Goraya warned. He said strict action would be taken against the elements involved in the sale of narcotics including heroin, hashish and other drugs in the city.
