QUETTA: Pakistan and Iran on Saturday agreed to boost bilateral trade and explore all opportunities to increase imports and exports. This was decided at the 10th meeting of the Pak-Iran joint border trade committee, which thoroughly discussed all ways and means to boost bilateral trade.

Chief Collector Customs, Abdul Qadir Memon led the Pakistani traders’ delegation, whereas, Dawood Shehrki, the deputy governor Sistan-Balochistan led the Iranian side. Members of the traders’ community from the two countries participated in the meeting and gave various proposals to increase imports and exports.

Final meeting held at Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industries

On the first day of the meeting, the implementation of the points included in the memorandum signed by the 9th Joint Border Trade Committee held in Iran by the officials of the two countries and other issues were discussed in detail. During the 10th session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Border Trade Committee held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Quetta-Baluchistan on the second day, bilateral border and barter trade, transportation, import and export sectors were discussed by Pakistani and Iranian delegations.

Bilateral cooperation has been increased and detailed discussions were held on dozens of agenda points related to solving the problems faced in these fields. During the meeting, tariff and non-tariff trade items, their import and export procedures, and the difficulties faced by the importers and exporters of both countries and their reservations, visa issuance conditions and fees, and issuance of flights from Quetta were also discussed.

Meeting decides to form tourism promotion committees

The final day meeting decided to form tourism Formation of promotion committees, open and establishment of new border markets, increase the working hours of the Taftan border gate, import and export food items especially fruits and vegetables, transport issues, agriculture, herding, fishing, Technical and other forms of assistance between the two countries in production sectors like seafood and coffee, methods of resolving trade disputes to increase bilateral trade volume, barter trade and other issues were discussed in detail during the meeting.

Both countries will not be economically prosperous until the people’s quality of life will not be improved. Officials participating in the meeting of the two countries said that the meeting of the 10th Pak-Iran Border Trade Committee will have a positive impact on bilateral trade. During the meeting, the memorandum of understanding will also be signed. In this regard, the process of drafting the MoU is going on. Finally, gifts were also exchanged between the two delegations.
