Quetta — The 128 students of Bolan Medical College, arrested earlier during a crackdown following a violent clash between two student organizations, were released from Huda Jail on Thursday morning.
The arrests had sparked protests from various political parties and civil society groups.
According to SSP Operation Quetta Muhammad Baloch, the students were taken into custody to maintain law and order after tensions escalated at the college. He confirmed that the release took place earlier today as the situation stabilized.
The arrests came after a recent clash at Bolan Medical College in which seven students were injured. Police conducted a raid on the college hostel, detaining 128 individuals to prevent further violence and restore order.
The incident triggered widespread criticism, with political parties, including the National Party, Awami National Party, and Balochistan National Party, staging protests outside the Quetta Press Club. Protesters condemned the mass arrests, accusing authorities of overreach and racial bias, and demanded the immediate release of the detained students.
The situation has highlighted growing concerns about campus violence and the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms in educational institutions. Students and activists are urging the government to address the underlying causes of such clashes and ensure a peaceful learning environment.
