Chaman — The passport department has successfully issued 5,000 free passports to the indigenous residents of Chaman as part of a government initiative launched on Friday.

The program aims to facilitate the people of the border district, enhancing their access to essential documentation for travel and employment opportunities.

A ceremony to mark this achievement was held in Chaman, attended by Commissioner Quetta Division Hamza Shafqat, Frontier Corps Brigadier Shakeel Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Habib Ahmed, District Police Officer Shaher Yar Khan, and local leaders including Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Haji Attaullah and trader representative Imran Khan Kakar.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Hamza Shafqat highlighted the provincial and federal governments’ commitment to resolving issues faced by Chaman’s residents.

He emphasized that beyond free passports, efforts are underway to explore options for providing free visas to residents, further easing their mobility.

Brigadier Shakeel Ahmed praised the collaboration between government departments in executing this initiative, noting its potential to improve socio-economic conditions in the region. Local leaders also expressed appreciation for the government’s support, urging continued focus on development projects in Chaman.

This initiative represents a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by the border community, ensuring they have access to essential resources and opportunities for growth. Residents have welcomed the program, viewing it as a gateway to better prospects.
