QUETTA: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) organized a one-day training workshop under the Social Security Support Programme for Adolescent Nutrition project at its head office in Quetta. The initiative was a collaborative effort by the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), GIZ, and Nutrition International.
The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and capacity among BFA and food department officials regarding food fortification and quality assurance strategies. Participants received training in quality control systems, nutrient testing, and fortification techniques for staple food items such as flour.
Prominent attendees included Provincial Food Minister and BFA Chairman Haji Noor Mohammad Dumar, Secretary Food Muzaffar Zeeshan Lehri, and BFA Director General Atiqullah Khan. Addressing the workshop, Haji Noor Mohammad Dumar emphasized the importance of ensuring safe food from farm to plate. He highlighted the BFA’s commitment to promoting food safety as a basic right and acknowledged the technical support provided by Nutrition International.
“Food fortification is a cost-effective way to boost immunity and prevent diseases, contributing to a healthier society,” said Dumar. He praised the SOPRAN project for its efforts in addressing nutritional challenges across Pakistan.
Master Trainer Professor Yasir Durrani and Provincial Program Manager Syed Khalil Agha delivered detailed sessions on fortification methods and nutrient testing techniques. Certificates were distributed to participants at the conclusion of the workshop.
