QUETTA: The anti-polio campaign across Balochistan, initially scheduled to commence on December 16, has been postponed for one day due to the boycott announced by the Grand Health Alliance (GHA).
The campaign will now begin on Tuesday, December 17, and will continue for seven days across the province, the emergency operation cell Ann announced on Sunday.
During the campaign, polio drops will be administered to children under the age of five. Balochistan, which has reported the highest number of polio cases in Pakistan this year, remains a critical focus area in the fight against the crippling virus.
Over two dozen cases have been reported from the province, prompting health authorities to declare an emergency to curb the alarming rise.
The boycott by GHA, aimed at pressing the government to meet their demands, has created hurdles in the campaign’s implementation.
The provincial government, however, has assured that all measures will be taken to ensure the success of the campaign, despite the challenges.
Health experts have expressed grave concerns over the rise in polio cases, urging parents to cooperate with vaccination teams to protect their children from the life-threatening disease.
With Balochistan struggling to contain the virus, the success of this campaign is crucial to eradicating polio from the region.
