QUETTA: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), led by Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen, has ordered Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Gwadar and Dera Bugti to deposit billions of rupees lying unused in dormant accounts into the government treasury. The directive was issued during a meeting focused on tackling financial irregularities and ensuring accountability in public funds management.
The PAC disclosed that 50 accounts under DC Gwadar’s administration hold Rs 14,532.294 million in unused funds, with partial refunds already made. The committee instructed that all dormant funds be returned to the treasury within six months, barring claims by rightful landowners. Public notices will be issued to alert eligible claimants, and unclaimed amounts will be transferred back to the treasury.
In Dera Bugti, an account containing Rs 25.820 million was found inactive for years. PAC mandated the immediate transfer of these funds to the treasury to address persistent financial mismanagement. The committee also directed DCs to submit detailed reports on fund usage within two months and ensure heirs present succession certificates to receive pending payments.
These measures underline the PAC’s dedication to enhancing financial transparency and addressing mismanagement issues in Balochistan’s administration.
