Quetta: Candidates awaiting SBK teaching appointment orders have launched an indefinite protest sit-in outside the Balochistan Provincial Assembly, braving severe cold and rain.
The teachers are demanding permanent appointment orders, refusing to leave until their demands are met.
The Balochistan government conducted test interviews in 2022 at the district level to recruit 9,000 teachers, but allegations of fraud surfaced against the testing service. The issue reached the court, which directed the provincial government to ensure merit-based appointments.
Later, the government introduced a new contract policy to reopen closed schools, offering 4,000 contract-based positions to successful candidates. However, SBK candidates rejected this move and took to the streets in protest.
This morning, male and female candidates staged a sit-in outside the assembly, enduring extreme weather conditions. Senior government officials, including Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, Health Minister Bakht Kakar, Opposition Leader Younis Aziz Zehri, and Khair Jan Baloch, arrived for negotiations, but the discussions remained inconclusive.
A protester, Khalid, emphasized, “We are here with one demand – a permanent appointment order. We will not leave until the government issues the notification.”
The teachers’ protest continues, putting pressure on the Balochistan government to resolve the issue and provide clarity on SBK teaching appointments.
