Quetta, March 18 – The Balochistan cabinet has decided to expedite contract-based hiring in the education sector, aiming to ensure teacher presence in schools and increase student enrollment across the province. The hiring will be on an 18-month contract, extendable based on performance and attendance.

The decision follows alarming reports from the education department, revealing that over 3,000 schools in Balochistan are non-functional due to chronic absenteeism and ghost teachers. The cabinet observed that permanent positions have failed to address these issues, whereas a contract-based system will improve accountability and service delivery.

CM Sarfaraz Bugti’s Vision for Education

Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti emphasized the importance of the decision, stating:

“Our government is committed to improving the education sector through effective policies. Ensuring teacher presence in schools is a top priority.”

He further stressed the need for performance-based employment, saying:

“For too long, ghost schools and absent teachers have hindered progress. We are introducing a system where only those who perform will retain their jobs.”

Addressing concerns over out-of-school children, Bugti added:

“Education is the foundation of our future. We will not let inefficiencies rob our children of their right to learn.”

The cabinet’s move is expected to bring much-needed reform to Balochistan’s struggling education sector, ensuring that schools remain functional and students receive quality education.
