News Desk, Qaseem Shah:
Quetta, June 11 – In a strategic move to address escalating environmental challenges, the Government of Balochistan has officially approved the establishment of the Balochistan Climate Change Fund. The fund aims to combat the adverse effects of climate change through targeted climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, while promoting sustainable development, natural resource management, and eco-friendly infrastructure projects.
This high-impact policy decision, spearheaded by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, reflects the province’s commitment to aligning with global climate resilience efforts and green investment goals. According to the Chief Minister, the fund will enable the government to launch low-carbon development programs, restore degraded ecosystems, and build a climate-resilient economy for the region.
“Balochistan is one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in Pakistan. Establishing a dedicated climate fund is crucial for protecting public health, securing livelihoods, and attracting international climate financing,” said Bugti.
The fund will support Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), renewable energy integration, and environment-friendly infrastructure planning. It also aims to increase public awareness about environmental conservation and foster community participation in climate risk management.
Environmental experts have welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), international climate aid, and donor funding for green infrastructure projects.
With global attention on climate finance in developing countries, the Balochistan Climate Change Fund positions the province as a proactive player in the field of climate-smart governance.
