QUETTA – The traditional mourning procession of the 7th of Muharram will be taken out today (Wednesday) at 2 PM from Imambargah Kalan Hazara, located on Prince Road, Quetta.
According to city administration officials, the procession will follow its customary route and culminate at Imambargah Nasir-ul-Aza on Mekangi Road.
In view of security concerns, authorities have sealed all roads leading to the procession route using tents and heavy vehicles.
Markets, shops, and plazas along the route have also been closed and sealed in coordination with the representatives of local traders’ associations.
SSP Operations confirmed that approximately 5,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed along the procession route to ensure foolproof security.
He further stated that five Quick Reaction Force (QRF) platoons of the Pakistan Army will remain on standby in case of any emergency.
As part of the high-security protocol, mobile phone services will remain suspended in key areas of the city during the procession. The suspension is aimed at preventing any potential misuse of communication networks that could disrupt law and order.
Due to the extensive security arrangements, several main roads are closed, and vehicular traffic has been diverted, giving many parts of the city a deserted look. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with law enforcement agencies throughout the day.
