Tech magnate Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political party in the United States, aiming to disrupt what he described as the country’s entrenched “one-party system.” The declaration came on Saturday through a post on X, the social media platform owned by Musk.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who was once a major supporter of former President Donald Trump and one of his largest financial backers during the 2024 election campaign, has since severed ties with the Republican leader. Their relationship soured following Musk’s tenure as head of the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), where he advocated for aggressive federal budget cuts and job reductions.
Musk has been an outspoken critic of the current administration’s expansive domestic spending policies, warning that such financial strategies would drive the national debt to unsustainable levels. He pledged to politically oppose any lawmakers who supported the spending plan.
As part of this new political direction, Musk introduced the “America Party” — a platform he says is designed to restore individual freedom and accountability in governance.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country through waste and corruption, we’re no longer living in a democracy, but under a one-party rule,” Musk posted. “The America Party has been formed today to return freedom to the people.”
He also referenced a poll he conducted on July 4th — U.S. Independence Day — asking users whether they desired independence from the long-standing two-party system. The majority of responses appeared to favor political change.
With the launch of the America Party, Musk signals a significant shift in the U.S. political landscape, potentially attracting disillusioned voters across the spectrum.
