Quetta (Web Desk) — Senior politician and former senator Haji Lashkari Raisani has filed a constitutional petition in the Balochistan High Court challenging the recently passed Pakistan Mines and Minerals Act 2025. He has expressed concerns about the manner in which the act was adopted and its potential implications for provincial rights.

Speaking to the media after filing the petition, Raisani stated that the act was passed in haste and without broader consultation, adding that it raises questions about public interest and resource ownership.

“The people of Balochistan have a constitutional right over their natural resources,” he said. “This act deserves greater scrutiny and wider public debate.”

He emphasised that minerals in the province are a shared asset of the people and should be managed in a way that ensures transparency, equity, and local benefit. Raisani called on civil society, political parties, and community representatives to remain engaged and informed on the matter.

The Pakistan Mines and Minerals Act 2025 was unanimously passed by the National Assembly earlier this year. While there was broad support at the time, some political voices have since raised concerns about certain clauses and their impact on provincial autonomy.

This petition adds to the ongoing legal and political conversation surrounding natural resource governance in Pakistan. The court is expected to review the petition in the coming days.
