QUETTA: In a key development in the ongoing investigation of the Degari honour killing case, Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, the main accused, was produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC-I) in Quetta on Monday. The court, presided over by Judge Muhammad Mubeen, granted a 10-day physical remand to the Special Crime Investigation Wing (SCIW) for further interrogation.
Sherbaz Satakzai, a local tribal figure, is alleged to have ordered the killing of a man and woman in the Degari-Sanjidi area, a tragic act that has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across Balochistan. The victims were reportedly targeted under the pretext of ‘honour’—a justification that human rights activists and lawmakers have firmly rejected.
According to law enforcement sources, the SCIW had requested additional time for remand to deepen their investigation, trace other possible suspects, and uncover the motive and planning behind the killings.
The incident, which came to light earlier this month, has prompted intense public backlash and calls for systemic action against honour-based violence. The Balochistan High Court has already taken suo motu notice of the case, and the provincial government is under mounting pressure to deliver swift and transparent justice.
This case is being seen as a litmus test for the state’s resolve in tackling gender-based violence and the influence of parallel justice systems like tribal jirgas, which are often linked to such extrajudicial acts.
Further court proceedings will follow after the completion of the remand period.
