ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Sunday that Pakistan and Iran are committed to significantly enhancing their bilateral trade volume, aiming to reach $10 billion in the near future.

The statement was issued during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s two-day official visit to Islamabad, where both nations signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) spanning trade, energy, and economic cooperation.

In a joint press briefing, PM Shehbaz and President Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of translating these MoUs into actionable agreements to unlock the full potential of their economic partnership. Delegations from both sides are expected to continue in-depth discussions to finalize implementation strategies.

During their meeting, the two leaders also explored a wide range of shared interests, including cultural, religious, and historic ties. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and promoting peace.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the June 13 attack on Iranian nuclear sites, expressing solidarity with Iran. He offered condolences over the loss of lives, including senior officials, scientists, and civilians, and extended prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Pakistan and Iran have long maintained cooperative ties, with multiple previous agreements in areas such as energy, trade, and border management. This latest visit marks a renewed effort to deepen economic collaboration and regional connectivity.
