Quetta – A young couple, Fahad and Sassi, arrived in Quetta from Kashmore after contracting a love marriage and have appealed to the government for immediate protection.
The couple claims their lives are in danger, particularly from Sassi’s uncle, and warn that without intervention, they could be harmed.
Just days earlier, another young couple from Mastung held a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, calling on the government to ensure their safety. These developments come in the aftermath of the brutal killing of a couple in the Gretha area — a case that has claimed multiple lives and remains unresolved. Rights groups say authorities have so far failed to curb this deadly trend.
Honour killings have claimed scores of lives in Pakistan, particularly in Jaffarabad and districts bordering Balochistan. Perpetrators are rarely arrested, and many enjoy complete impunity. Human rights organizations, civil society activists, the media, and members of the legal community have repeatedly urged the government to bring culprits to justice and dismantle this violent custom.
