QUETTA: August 27, 2025 — The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal money exchange networks, arresting three suspects involved in hawala/hundi and unlawful currency trading.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the action was carried out on the directives of Director General FIA Riffat Mukhtar Raja. A special team of the FIA Taftan Circle conducted the raids in different areas of Chagai and Nushki, resulting in the arrest of three accused — identified as Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Khan, and Syed Muhammad.

During the operation, authorities seized more than 1.35 billion Iranian rials, over 800,000 Pakistani rupees, 180 US dollars, and Bangladeshi taka. The team also recovered three ATM cards, five Pakistani passports, and 12 transaction registers used in illegal activities.

The spokesperson confirmed that the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the recovered currency and were found to be actively engaged in hawala/hundi and unauthorized money exchange operations. The accused have been shifted into custody, and further investigation is underway.

The FIA reiterated its commitment to dismantling illegal currency networks, which not only affect Pakistan’s financial system but are also linked to money laundering and cross-border crimes.
