Quetta: The Balochistan Information Commission has officially started its operations to guarantee the public’s constitutional right to access information.

The office of the Commission was inaugurated at the Directorate of Public Relations building, attended by Secretary Information Imran Khan, Commissioner Abdul Shakoor, and Director Saeed Shahwani.

Speaking at the event, Provincial Secretary Information Imran Khan described the establishment of the Commission as a “milestone” for the people of Balochistan. He stressed that access to information is a fundamental right, which will not only strengthen transparency but also promote accountability and good governance. He urged the Information Department to ensure that government policies and initiatives are communicated to the public in a timely and accurate manner.

Commissioner Abdul Shakoor highlighted that the creation of the Commission marks a crucial step toward empowering citizens in exercising their right to information. He said the provincial government is committed to improving governance, eliminating corruption, and encouraging public participation. “Transparency and accountability are the foundation of public trust, and every citizen will have equal access to information without discrimination,” he added.

The Commissioner further encouraged citizens to actively use their right to information, emphasizing that public engagement is essential for making the system more effective.

It is worth mentioning that the Right to Information Act was passed by the Balochistan Assembly in 2021. The establishment of the Commission ensures the effective implementation of this law, enabling citizens to demand and receive information from public institutions.
