Quetta: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Balochistan has arrested two key members of an international hawala-hundi network during a major crackdown against illegal currency exchange.

According to the FIA spokesperson, the operation was carried out by the Commercial Banking Circle in Quetta on the instructions of the FIA Director General. The arrested suspects, identified as Junaid and Abdul Razzaq, were found involved in running illegal money transfers through hawala and hundi channels.

During the raid, authorities recovered 33 million Iranian rials along with two mobile phones and other evidence related to illegal transactions. Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a wider network operating between Afghanistan, Dubai, and Australia, facilitating unlawful cross-border remittances.

The spokesperson added that the accused failed to justify the recovered currency during interrogation. They have been taken into custody and formal investigations are underway. Efforts are also being made to trace and arrest their accomplices involved in the racket.

The FIA reaffirmed its commitment to curb illegal money laundering and hawala-hundi operations, which are considered a major threat to Pakistan’s financial system.
