Qaseem Shah:
At least 12 people lost their lives while several others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in Balochistan on Saturday.
According to rescue sources, four people were killed in a traffic accident in Khnuzai, while eight others died in a similar incident in Panjgur. Multiple passengers were reported injured in both accidents and were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Traffic accidents in Balochistan have become alarmingly common in recent years, particularly on highways linking Quetta, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Khnuzai. Analysts say the lack of road infrastructure, absence of strict enforcement of traffic laws, and increasing volume of heavy transport vehicles have further raised the risk of road tragedies.
The provincial government has expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed the health department to ensure proper medical facilities for the injured. Officials have also reiterated the need for road safety awareness campaigns and stricter action against reckless driving.
These latest incidents bring renewed attention to the urgent need for road safety reforms in Balochistan, where hundreds of people lose their lives annually in preventable traffic accidents.
