Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, met with faculty heads and members from different universities, where issues related to the role of media, fact-checking, social values, and collective responsibilities were discussed in detail.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted that in the past, strong editorial checks in newspapers ensured accuracy and credibility of news. However, with the rise of electronic and social media, editorial scrutiny has weakened, creating challenges in distinguishing facts from misinformation.
He remarked that in today’s digital era, the difference between truth and lies has become extremely thin. Unlike traditional media, social media was launched in Pakistan without strengthening the foundation of social values and structural safeguards. As a result, fake propaganda has created mistrust among the youth towards the state.
Bugti emphasized that instead of promoting truth, popular narratives often gain space. He stressed that teachers have a critical role in guiding students in the right direction, reducing the gap between the state and the younger generation, and ensuring research-based clarity to counter misleading narratives.
The Chief Minister underlined that the bond between the state and its citizens is based on mutual rights and responsibilities, and grievances should not lead to violence or rebellion against the country.
He further stated that sacrifices were made by all ethnic groups during the creation of Pakistan, including Sindhis, Pashtuns, and Punjabis. “This homeland belongs to all of us, and every community has contributed to its foundation,” he added.
Highlighting reforms, Bugti informed that the provincial government has recruited 16,000 contract teachers, which made 3,200 closed schools functional again. For the first time, state-backed health facilities have also been extended to remote areas of the province.
He mentioned the appointment of the first doctor in Mand and the birth of a child at Bekar Hospital as symbolic milestones of improved healthcare access.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that ordinary Balochistan citizens, whether suffering in harsh winters or scorching summers, are provided with better facilities and services.
