Chaman (Syed Sardar Muhammad Khundai): A large protest erupted in Chaman on Friday as members of the Levies Force strongly opposed the government’s decision to merge the Levies with the Balochistan Police. The demonstrators marched through major streets of the border city of Chaman, chanting slogans and expressing resentment over what they called an “unjust and discriminatory move” against the Pashtun region.

The protest rally concluded outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where hundreds of Levies officials and personnel gathered, holding banners and placards demanding the withdrawal of the merger decision. The protesters asserted that the Levies Force has long served as an effective local security institution and that its merger into the police would undermine regional traditions and public trust.
“We completely reject this merger plan—it’s an attack on our identity and administrative autonomy,” said one of the Levies representatives while addressing the crowd.
Political leaders, tribal elders, and civil society members also joined the demonstration, voicing solidarity with the Levies personnel. They called on the Balochistan government and federal authorities to review the decision and protect the rights of the Pashtun belt.
The protesters warned that if the decision is not reversed, they would continue their peaceful protest movement across Balochistan until their demands are met.
