Quetta: The Serious Crimes Investigation Wing (SCIW) conducted a successful operation and arrested the main accused involved in the murder of female teacher Maryam Shahwani in an injured condition.
According to police sources, the arrested suspect, Owais son of Musa Muhammad Hassani, was wanted in connection with the brutal killing of 17-year-old schoolteacher Maryam Shahwani. The incident took place on October 16, when two unidentified motorcycle riders opened fire near her residence on Manojan Road, resulting in her death. The case was initially registered at Sadar Police Station and later handed over to the SCIW for further investigation.
Under the supervision of SSP Imran Qureshi, a special investigation team was formed to trace the culprits. Using modern investigative tools, technological tracking, and CCTV footage, the team managed to identify the suspects.
Earlier, during the course of the investigation, police had arrested Muhammad Jahanzeb son of Muhammad Hanif, one of the key accused, while raids were underway to apprehend the absconding suspect, Owais.
Police officials said that last night, acting on a tip-off about the suspect’s presence in Killi Barat, an operation was carried out. During the raid, the accused and his accomplice opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Owais sustained injuries reportedly from his accomplice’s fire, while the other suspect managed to escape.
The injured accused was later taken into custody and shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta for medical treatment.
Police sources added that further investigation is underway to trace the absconding accomplice and determine the motive behind the murder.
